A Sample Workplace Disciplinary
Procedure
DISCIPLINARY
MEASURES
Supervisors and workers will
be subject to progressive disciplinary actions should they not adhere to the
Code of Practice. Failure to do so, will result in the following
disciplinary actions:
- First offense: Verbally advise &
educate the workers
Where a worker fails to comply
with the company’s Code of Practice, the supervisor shall be responsible to
verbally advise the worker that his/her behaviour is unacceptable. The
supervisor shall also educate the worker of the proper steps to follow in
order to ensure his/her health and safety.
The supervisor shall then
describe the action taken in the event of subsequent offenses.
It is
of utmost importance for the supervisor to record the time, date and type of
offense.
- Second offense: Written
warning
Should the worker fail to comply
with the company’s Code of Practice, a written warning will be issued by the
supervisor of the second offense. The worker will also get a copy of the
written warning. The supervisor shall remind the worker of the proper
procedures to follow and describe the action taken in the event of subsequent
offenses.
It is of utmost importance for the supervisor to record the
time, date, type, witnesses and number of offense.
The matter shall be
brought forward to Joint Health and Safety Committee for point of discussion.
- Third offense: Sent home for three
days
Should
the worker fail to comply with the company’s Code of Practice a 3rd
time, the supervisor shall send the worker home from work for three days
without pay.
The matter shall again be brought forward to Joint Health
and Safety Committee for point of discussion.
Before sending the worker
home, the supervisor shall explain the offense to worker and describe the last
action taken in the event of a 4th offense.
- Fourth offense: Dismissal
In the
event of a 4th offense, the supervisor shall explain to the worker
all of the previous 3 offenses and that the worker is being discharged
permanently.
This action shall also be recorded and kept in file for
five years.
